I have been meaning to write a post for sometime explaining what the blog would be about and a bit about myself. But i have found it difficult to know what to write, the reason for this is because I'm embarrassed to say that I'm a recovering drug addict ! I had started early taking drugs when i was 15. It was the usual path people take starting with pot, then Amphetamine and Ecstasy in the late 80's during the start of (at the time) underground rave scene. For a few years it was a lot of fun, some of the best times of my life , but by the mid 90's my habits had got a lot harder. I started to use Heroin ! Chasing the Dragon (smoking it). I'm still fighting this addiction ! I'm not going to go into the gory details that's too boring, suffice to say i have had a lot of problems with jobs & relationships.
The idea for the blog came because through all that time i have always kept and ridden bikes. Riding has always helped with giving me a focus and to make me feel good about myself because years of abuse strips away your self esteem. In the last ten years my love of cycling has grown to be a bit of an obsession, probably something to do with my addictive personality or I'm just weak willed, probably a bit of both. Anyway i like to think of it as passion and after plenty of hours surfing the net i know I'm not alone in this respect. I'm not a natural writer and my riding is nowhere near as interesting as a lot of the blogs that i follow so i do not expect to have many followers so i won't be upsetting to many people with my poor grammar. Because of my habit i have only ever mostly ridden by myself so i thought that this might be a good way to interact with other people who are mad for cycling , so if i get any new riding buddy's from this then it will have been have been worth doing just for that alone!
Wow - hats off to you for sharing that. I would imagine that what most of us would call riding up a steep hill is nothing of the sort compared to your recovery.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't worry too much about being a 'natural writer' because in reading your last few posts - I'd be more than happy with them & am sure any other blogger would be. Just write stuff as it comes - its not as if you're writing to a deadline - that's part of the beauty of blogging!
Best of luck :>)
Many thanks Ian for your kind words much appreciated, and fair point about not having a deadline. As for the recovery it's a bit like griding up a steep hill with 48-11 gear then tumbing down the other side with your brakes failing ! But i'am just gratefull that through my cycling i've got an escape route. Once again mate many thanks.
